New Digs

January 16th, 2010

My old commercial hosting company, Hostnine, made some sort of change to their servers and all of my eBay sites suddenly stopped working. I tried working with their tech support but it was useless so I moved everything to Hostgator and I’m happy with the move.

I’ve also had a new personal domain for a while and I’ve finally decided to move this blog to the new address: http://richardmoose.net

Maybe I’ll have some sort of “grand opening” for the new place…. or not. Anyway, this will be my last post at this address until I decide what to do with this domain. I have a feeling it is going to be a brother to my other dog site.

See you at the new digs…

Apps vs Browser

December 19th, 2009

I’ve tried the Wordpress App on my Touch and I’ve used Safari to just log into my desktop and I have to say that typing on the Touch is such a PITA that I’d rather not use either one. But if I had to choose between them, I’d say that I really like the familiar look and feel of using Safari, but the ease of use on the small platform vote has to go to the App. Which is pretty much what you would expect.

So I’m dull and I have nothing of value to add to the conversation.

Thanks for the love.

Danielle Ate the Sandwich

August 21st, 2009

It was really a great experience.

We got tuned up for the show by watching Danielle’s videos. They’re very fun. It’s that smart funny thing. Very appealing.

I shot some video of us goofing around before leaving for the coffee house. It’s been torched.

Here’s the first video, when I was still suffering from the delusion that the videos were somehow about me. It wasn’t until I finished the second video that I recovered my senses and realized it was all about Danielle. As it should be. What an amazing talent. Her voice is magic.

Danielle Ate the Sandwich

Before the show, Danielle visited with her fans and sat with Chris and I and a couple of fans and chatted with us. She was just as down to Earth as you would expect.

It is one of life’s golden pleasures to be able to sit and listen to a really good musician play and sing live. Danielle made us feel like we were just hanging out in the living room. Her voice is pure and powerful and she uses it to break your heart and to make you laugh, but mostly you just feel good listening to her.

Anticipation

August 14th, 2009

I’m going down to San Diego tomorrow to see my buddy, Chris and we’re going to see Danielle Ate the Sandwich at a coffee house. I’m looking forward to it. Her videos are amazing and I’m sure the “personal” experience is going to be interesting. I’m planning to buy both of her CDs and if she has t-shirts I’m sure I’ll get one of those as well. I want to help her keep going. What a talent.

Why I love the Net

August 11th, 2009

I think this girl is brilliant and I never would have had the pleasure of experiencing her talent if it weren’t for the net. God bless you one and all.

Mechanics

February 22nd, 2009

I’ve been building a lot of web pages lately.

It is kind of surprising how mechanical this digital process actually is.

So here I sit in Southern California, at my desk, in my bedroom, with my computer glowing next to me and one of the many computers it is currently talking to is sitting in a room somewhere in the midwest. That is where the many files that comprise this site are housed. And so with the push of a button, my thoughts from the bedroom are flashed in a wink to a computer a thousand miles away and it sends them on to you. And you could be anywhere in ther world. Literally.

Anyway, Makeup Discounters is getting a directory overhaul and major upgrade, so I am back to work on that. Laterz.

Feeding Frenzy

September 23rd, 2008

I’m just catching on to the power of RSS feeds and it is blowing me away! It’s like discovering the Internet for the first time.

Many thanks to Ed Dale and the guys at the Thirty Day Challenge for opening my eyes to this new beauty.

My Friend Feed

What you have to understand about RSS is that it turns the internet upside down. The old paradigm is that you “go out” and visit websites. You travel from here to there looking for information or entertainment or whatever.

RSS works the other way around.

With RSS, it all comes to you… automatically.

It’s great for all the places you go on a regular basis like CNN, You Tube, whatever. They all have RSS feeds.

It’s also great for tracking a topic over time. If you’re interested in anything (for example “killbots”) then you can search all feeds for that keyword and find every article in the feeds every day. Think about that…. you’re not just doing a web search, you’re also doing a blog post search and a newspaper search, you’re pretty much searching the wold internet in a way you simply couldn’t on your own. And you’re doing it automatically, every minute.

It’s very powerful stuff.

It’s so powerful, in fact, that if you’re taking advantage of RSS feeds, you’re not on the net.

It’s that simple.

The Magic Key

The Magic Key that opens this door is Google Reader.

Just do it.

Sometimes I Feel Like an Idiot

September 10th, 2008

I feel like an idiot when I suddenly discover the unrealized power of something I’ve had or know about for quite some time. It’s like if all you used your computer for was email and you suddenly discovered that you could also use it to access the web.

I’ve had iTunes on my system for ages but I never really got into it. Even after I got my iPod touch, which you have to use iTunes to access, I still didn’t really catch on to the combined power of the two.

Then tonight I’m messing around in the iTunes store for pretty much the first time and I suddenly discover that there is a ton of free stuff available that I can download and put on my iPod and I’m like.. doh! What an idiot.

There are a ton of podcasts alone that I need to get. And I definitely need to get a new radio for my car that has an iPod connection. Suddenly a whole new world has opened up for me.

ATT Nightmare

June 27th, 2008

I’m writing this from work because my ATT DSL line has been down for three days now and I’m seriously pissed off about it. For three days they’ve been telling me it will be fixed “within 4 hours.”

Grrrrrrrr!

The iPhone and the iPod Touch

June 12th, 2008
Buying an iPhone because you need a cell phone would be stupid.

Buying an iPod Touch because you need an iPod would be stupid.

The truth is that the iPhone is really a hand held computer that also works as a phone.

The iPod Touch is really a hand held computer that also plays music.

Buy them because you want a hand held computer. Any other reason is sorta silly.
